Krzysztof joined the Times at the beginning of a complete rewrite of the Newsreader iOS app. He played an essential architectural role in this process and pushed the team to move to more modern design patterns and best practices. One of the most successful changes Krzysztof introduced was a move to functional reactive programming, which was just coming into its own in the mobile community. As part of this work, in order to avoid the heavy dependencies that occupied the FRP space at that time, Krzysztof created a lightweight in-house observable library that is still in use today. Similarly, recognizing the sheer volume of boilerplate code that reduced developer productivity, he came up with Sourcery, a powerful code generation library that has since become one of the most popular tools in all of iOS.

Sourcery's utility and success is a testament to Krzysztof's passion for improving developer productivity. He gravitates towards building solutions that reduce the amount of friction a developer experiences in their day-to-day work, whether that's through building tools to help engineers develop, debug and test new features or by relieving the tiny pinpoints that invisibly add up to days and days of lost productivity over time.

He's also just insanely fast at his work. One of the biggest challenges you'll find in working with Krzysztof is ensuring he has enough to work on. He is equally as likely to pick up small tickets in the backlog as he is to research new technical solutions that will help our team's long term strategy.

As strong of a technologist as he is and with as much confidence as he has with his work, you might be surprised to learn how committed Krzysztof is to seeking out feedback and self-improvement. Where I've seen him grow the most in our time together is as a leader. In the early days, he was very involved in every technical decision, large and small. While guiding the team towards important outcomes, he began to recognize that to truly scale his impact, he needed to take a step back and empower others to learn and grow. He now gives input and feedback when needed, but is not overbearing. It has been an important shift, not only in his own growth, but in that of the team. With an engineer as esteemed as Krzysztof, it would be easy to imagine an organization where engineers just follow his lead or deferring to him for important decisions; but I have witnessed the opposite. I feel confident in saying the engineers he works with have learned and grown tremendously during their time working with him.

I cannot recommend Krzysztof highly enough. He will bring a tremendous amount of value to your organization if you're luck enough to have him on board.

Krzysztof is one of the most effective and thoughtful engineers I've ever had the please of working with. When we decided to launch a new project, I knew the first engineer to join was critical. I needed someone who was productive and efficient, but not at the expense of making sound architectural decisions.
